A harmonious and well balanced red of great complexity. From the Ribera del Duero region come some of Spain's most high-quality reds which is really down to the initial motivation given to other growers by Vega Sicilia (one of the world's great red wines) and to the fact that the region's vineyards are high-altitude, being positioned between 700-800 metres from sea-level, giving the grapes a slow, longer-ripening period. The PradoRey Ribera del Duero is immaculately made and comes from one of the region's most ambitious projects at the 520 hectare Bodegas Ventosilla. This Crianza spends twelve months in American oak (from Missouri and the Appalacians) after being fermented out in stainless steel. It then has a three month siesta in large French oak vats before finally reaching the bottle. Made from 95% Tinto Fino (Tempranillo) with 3% Cabernet Sauvignon and 2% Merlot. Black cherry in colour with a complex black and red fruit nose; floral with vanilla and spice showing through. Harmonious in the mouth with a smooth fruit balanced by touches of oak and rounded tannins.
