Chateau Doisy-Daene 2009, Barsac
Brand: Chateau Doisy-Daene
2eme Cru Classé Barsac This was certainly in our top five in the Sauternes/ Barsac tastings and is a massively ripe, unctuous and pervasive wine, something which makes it relatively atypical of this château. Dubourdieu normally leans towards a 'ballet-dancer' style of Barsac, with a lightness of touch and elegance. Here, the sheer quality of the vintage has left Dubourdieu no alternative but to make a very intense and creamy-textured style but with a haunting freshness and massive length. There are citrus, honey and spice overtones but it does not go down the road of 'tropical exoticism' that some other wines do. A definite star which will develop real complexity. 14% alc. and 155g/l residual sugar/ 4.5gl. total acidity . [Drink: 2016-2030] CCNPOwned by Pierre (the father) and Denis Dubourdieu (the son) who also own Château Montalivet in Graves. Denis is a professor at the Institue of Oenology in Bordeaux. More than anyone else Denis Dubourdieu is credited with revolutionizing the making of white wine in Bordeaux with his 'maceration péliculaire'. This is a process whereby the grapes are left to chill prior to pressing and fermentation enabling the wines to retain their freshness and fruit vigour and to reduce the amount of sulphur used to negligible amounts. A tremendous amount of meticulous care goes into making this fine Barsac. It has a well earned reputation as one of the top wines of the 2eme Crus. 80% Semiilon, 20% Sauvignon
