Christopher Piper Wines Clos Du Patis D'Enfer Muscadet 2017 Domaine de la Bretonniere
Brand: Christopher Piper Wines
The one-hectare Clos du Patis d'Enfer (in old French this means, the amazing walled field/pasture) is south-west facing, situated at 180 metres altitude, in the commune of Le Landreau. The soil is a complex geological mix of Micashistes, gneiss and clay. The fully ripe grapes are classically fermented at low temperatures using neutral yeasts which allow the complex terroir to talk. The elevage on the lees is in underground, cement vats for 24 months. This wine is ony made in very good vintages. This tastes like a cross between and Chablis and a dry Vouvray or Montlouis. Intense, peachy fruit aromatics lead in to an intrguing richly textured, mineral mid-palate with a creamy lemon meringue pie finish. Drinking perfectly at the moment. The Chapentier-Fleurance family have been running this estate for four generations and since 1989, it has been run by the two brothers, Pierre-Yves and Patrice. Pierre-Yves is the wine-maker and in charge of the cellars whilst his brother, Patrice, is responsible for the vineyards and sales. The vineyards are managed using minimum intervention and Domaine de la BretonniŠre is a member of the Ariane early-warning weather group, which means that they can fully optimise the moment they intervene with any chemical sprays, meaning that they have managed to reduce their use of fungicides and herbicides by 50%.
