Langham Estate Langham Blanc de Blancs 2017
Brand: Langham Estate
Stable Foam, pale gold colour, fine stream of bubbles. Nose is complex with ripe gala apple and poached pear. Some floral notes of apple blossom and honey suckle. A seriousness here too, with wet beach pebbles and toasted granary bread. A well-integrated orchard fruit acidity. Confected apple, some creaminess ad great texture. A lovely salinity and citrus balances well. Some light brioche and almond notes too.A complex yet elegant example of how great Chardonnay can be in the UK. The grapes were picked in October 2017 and gently pressed, whole bunch. Press fractions were carefully separated and left to naturally settle for 24 hours. Primary fermentation took place in a combination of stainless-steel tanks and used oak barrels, followed by complete malolactic fermentation. Following 7 months of élevage, the final blend was bottled and left to age on lees for a minimum of 30 months. At disgorgement the wine received 3 g/L dosage and was aged for a further 3 to 6 months under cork. There has been no sulphur added to this wine. All fruit for this wine was sourced from our single site in rural Dorset. The Crawthorne vineyard consists of 12 hectares planted to Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier and is located on a sheltered south facing slope at 80-100 metres above sea level. The soil consists of a shallow clay loam, containing flint, over deep Cretaceous chalk All Langham Estate wines are made using grapes grown at their estate in rural Dorset. The Crawthorne vineyard consists of 12 hectares planted solely with the classic Champagne varieties – Chardonnay, Pinot noir and Pinot meunier. The site was carefully selected for its south facing slope and free-draining chalk subsoil. A long growing season and considerate viticulture ensure the finest grapes possible.
